The past week I pray for..
Health and happiness for my youngest son. He is 10. We had the party the day before polling as he insisted to not postphoning it another week. Nasib baik kek sudah sedia awal. He is crazy about Chelsea. Stencilling the logo from fondant is all I could think of. Not that great looking but he appreciates my effort and likes it. Bless him.
Fun outing on polling day. Macam hari raya ni berkumpul2 sama family. Don't you think so?
My prayers are for our beloved country's peace and stability and racial harmony regardless the ruling government's party. Please may we stay a united nation.
My son did us proud, coming top of the year for his school in the Seminar PMR KRK and Top 2 from overall 5 schools of Pantai Barat. I hope he maintains the pace for the real deal in October. Oooo.. nda lama lagi tu kan..aku pula yang kecut perut.
My prayers everyday are always , safe and success for my kids , blessed life for all my family and may we not stray from Allah's path. Mudah-mudahan. Amin.

January came and went
The kids school is hectic and the calendar says this is going on up to February. Co-cum and sports, every day through Saturday.
My youngest son makes the school soccer team. Today they play their first match after 2 weeks forming the team. Against an experienced under 13 club. They were wiped out. They look pathetic and cute at the same time. They are so small and scrawny and way off the league of the opponents who some are already in Form 1 (but not yet 13). Helmi is the smallest and the youngest. Most his mates are 12, he is 10. His jersey is hanging off him like a dress... comical. Honestly they got a long way to go (way way long) but it's a good exposure and experience. Playing more real matches like this will pay.
We are getting a new neighbour. They have taken over the house for months (maybe a year already) but were stalling with the renovation. They chopped off the trees, pulled away the fence and stop. For months. I thought they changed their mind and give up the place. Then they came back, hacked off the roof and the wall and then stop again for weeks. All of a sudden, yesterday they came with a crane and went all out , all day, pulling the house apart, banging everything right down to the ground. Nothing left. We have an empty field on our left side. I can see that pink house at the other side of the road from my bedroom window. As much as I'm curious how the next structure will take shape,(I heard they're planning to build 3 small houses in that plot of land), I realize this means a lot of noise is ahead. As it is, feels like there's a quarry factory operating next door. Looks like migraine medication on the ready.
Wishing you guys a happy weekend. Until later.

Recipe Files
So I turn to trusted sites where real people post their family's recipe and viewers try those recipes and rate and comment them including changes they have made to improve the recipes. This way I know it's a true and tried recipe. I love allrecipes.com for this.
How do you keep your recipes? I like the idea of recipe cards. It's cute and very mobile. But it's too much work for me to resize and protect the paper. How? Laminate? Isn't that too much.
I use clear folders. I have 2 files, one for cakes and the other for main course. But the files are bursting. I exceed the folders, I have loose clips plus they are not properly divided. I need to add more files and redefine the categories and then further divide the sections for easy reference. I also have cookbooks, some really good ones, some just having a couple foolproofs and some not ventured yet. I need to tag this book somehow or maybe retype the good recipe and file it into the new file. How many times I want to make something and can't remember where the recipe from. I can't remember if it's in the folder or in the cookbooks and which cookbook. I have to make time to sort all this out. I HAVE time but I keep putting it off because I know it means a lot of retyping and rearranging. I'd be pulling out the files to start and then look around and just sort of collapse in dread imagining all the writing and shove it back.
But this time I am determined to get it done. I will sort the files out once and for all.
Step 1 - get the extra files. After some thinking, I decide I need 4 categories. And I name them : Cakes n Cookies, Pies n Pudding, Main Meal, Home Tips. However, labelling is just about the only fun thing here. Right after that, is pure headache. But I am determined (mantra).
I approach the process robot-style. Don't think, just do. Scan, select, retype, refile. Repeat.
I am also taking into account the probability factor. I have recipes that's been sitting around for ages waiting for the miracle moment when I attempt them, I have now discard those recipes. Since I'm on robot mode I'll be heartless.
Recipes like kek lapis requiring 20 eggs and 6 hours process and complicated meals needing 26 ingredients and multiple stages that I know I'll never attempt are going into the bin instead of crowding my file. If I do keep a file, it'll be named Highly Unlikely. I'm done with over-ambitious, thank you. Only realistic, doable stuffs in these files from now on.
The Home Tips file, since you ask, contain, tips for using cooking products for house cleaning or beauthy/health regimen. It has been very useful for me knowing the uses of vinegar and baking soda in cleaning so I dedicate a file for such other useful tips. This year I resolve to try the tips on beauty/health. Most times I don't remember about it until I threw things away. Stuffs like using leftover bananas/papayas for face mask or lemons for nails. I only ever remember to reuse teabags for eye mask. Yes you can turn overripe bananas into muffins but sometimes you just don't want to because you are not up to baking and because you are thinking of ..ermm..your muffin top...so it's left rotten and thrown away. So that's one reminder.
I have done sorting one file and is halfway into the second. I should be finished in a week. I already feel good. Go robot.
You all have a nice day.

Update
Hubby's aunt from KL just left here yesterday. She was here since last Wednesday with her husband and 2 other relatives. Didn't do much entertaining since it was school week and all. We just gave a car for use and let them in my Mom-in law's care. They entertained themselves driving out of town to Beaufort, Kota Belud, etc, buying stuffs like 'beras bukit', fresh tiger prawns and this and that.
The best part was ofcourse Mak Ngah's cooking especially that udang goreng cili.Hmmmmm.. I should say no more. My sinus is bad these days from consuming all those wicked udang.
Kids schedules are tight this month. Sports practice, afternoon class, co-cum every Saturday, top with kelas mengaji and tuitions, they hardly have time for homeworks. And the homeworks are a lot. Not that I'm complaining. But they are really cramming everything before the long CNY holidays.
That's a whole one week by the way. You guys got anything planned?
None here. We'll probably just hang out at the club. I just hope the rain doesn't come some days. It's everyday, isn't it? Kids haven't gone to the pool for a while.
So before I take a blog break again, here's wishing you a very prosperous Chinese New Year !

Lazy Day Yay
It's raining everyday. Not quite the way I like it. But it gives me the reason to work on getting my kitchen/pantry organised. I went through all the cabinets and cleaned them out, which always feel good, and I redid all my spices. It's amazing how much room is wasted with things you don't use unless you really stay on top of it, you know.
The before look:
And the after :
And all these are past their expiry dates. What a waste. One good rule to organising pantry is to purge. Often.
So what do you do when it rains? What else, eat ofcourse. The kitchen is nice and tidy. Everything is organised. You have some mushrooms in the fridge and ready pastry. How about some mushroom soup?

Hmmm.....it's good..it's good. Shall I pass on the recipe? It's a keeper. I got it from allrecipe.com. Here :
CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP
Ingredients:
1 pound fresh mushrooms
1/4 cup margarine
4 onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tsp chopped fresh thyme
2 tb flour
4 cups vegetable stock
1 cup light cream
salt & pepper to taste
1 sprig fresh thyme leaves
1 tb chopped fresh chives
Directions :
1.Thinly slice the mushrooms, discarding the stalks.
2. Melt the butter and cook the onions, garlic and thyme for 1 minute or until garlic is golden. Add the mushroom and salt & pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the mushrooms soften. Add flour and stir for 1 minute.
3. Remove from heat and add stock, stirring continuosly. Return to the heat and bring to the boil, stirring. Reduce the heatand simmer gently for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Whisk the cream into the soup, then reheat gently, stirring. Do not allow the soup to boil. Season to taste with salt & pepper, and garnish with the chopped chives and thyme.
Have a try. It's perfect for the weather.

How about I show you my new blinds for the kitchen.
Wet kitchen.
And since I did some tidying up around the dry kitchen, I show you the new arrangement of my vantage collection.
